Prehistoric Caves
prehistoric caves.jpg

Lascaux IV

Lascaux IV is the world-renowned cave with drawings by prehistoric man. The real caves have been closed to the public for decades, due to their deterioration. Lascaux IV is the 4th facsimile of the caves, incredibly made and with a great visitor centre. Do book tickets in advance.

Font de Gaume

Font de Gaume is the only prehistoric cave in Europe with polychromatic paintings (from 15,000 years ago) that’s still open to the public. We loved visiting it, it really is incredible to step back in time and see what people 700 generations ago were inspired to paint on the walls. It’s about 1 hour and 20 minutes from here, in Les Eyzies.
Buying tickets is complicated and tickets are limited. The calendar opens the month before (usually)!

  • Go to the French site (not the English one, they don’t offer the English tour!!!!)

  • Scroll down, find the block ‘La Grotte de Font-de-Gaume’ and click on ‘Choisir’

  • Choose how many tickets you want – adults are ‘Tarif Individuel’ and then click at the bottom on ‘Mettre á jour le panier’

  • Scroll back up to ‘Choisissez votre langue’ and choose ‘Anglais’ for the English tours

  • In the calendar click on the month you want and then the available dates (depending on how many tickets you want to buy) become visibile

  • Click on the date you would like and then ‘Valider le date’

  • Check the details and then click on ‘valider votre commande’

  • Type in your email address. If you don’t want to create an account, choose ‘continuer sans compte’ by clicking on ‘poursuivre’

  • Tick the small box, and click on ‘payer votre commande’

  • Pay with your credit card

  • You’ll receive several emails with the tickets etc.

Tasting the Lot et Garonne

A little bit about Luci and Tasting the Lot et Garonne

France is a gastronomic delight, whichever region you decide to visit. After working in the restaurant business, moved here to help non French speaking residents, holidaymakers and businesses enjoy the local smaller independent boutique wineries and producers who could not promote themselves and their produce as widely as the "Big Boys".

Tasting The Lot is exactly that.

Tasting and enjoying everything that the Lot Valley and surrounding region has to offer. Visiting wineries, food producers and local markets to sample all wonderful things on offer.

Wine tastings, run by Luci,  are always great fun and make sure that everyone learns something new about the local regional wines, many different grape varieties and their French names, different wine making techniques and where to buy them.

Food and wine matching parties are a great way to find out about local produce and enable the vast majority of non French speaking holiday makers gain confidence to enjoy their stay all the more.

Wine tasting in your holiday home are available upon request, or in a location close to your stay.

Please email luci@tasting-the-lot.com for more information or to make a booking.

FOOD SHOPPING

Here’s an overview of all the supermarkets and markets near Maison du Cluzeau.

For instance the Sunday morning market in Issigeac is great. The best food shop is Grand Frais in Bergerac, fantastic products at reasonable prices.

There is a small shop in Montignac-de-Lauzun selling bread, croissants, cheese and meats, handy for breakfast and emergency provisions.

There is a large Intermarche supermarket in Miramont-de-Guyenne (14 mins) and a Carrefour in Eymet (17 mins) which is also open on Sundays.

Chateau De Fayolle

We recommend a visit to the beautiful Chateau De Fayolle where you can taste the award winning wines, take a tour of the vineyard and have a fabulous lunch.  It is highly recommended to book in advance as they book up very quickly in the summer months.  You can book here, the site is in English and French.

The Walnuts

We recommend a visit to The Walnuts Bistro in Eymet.  The Walnut is a modern culinary space that combines contemporary cuisine, and delicious drinks.  They prioritise carefully selected ingredients to offer you an unforgettable dining experience, drawing inspiration from American and Mediterranean cuisines, as well as their travels across the world.
